The Top 10 Mistakes People Make in Divorce Cases

4. Dressing Inappropriately for Court

While this is highly unlikely to affect the outcome of your case, you are required - as is your lawyer - to show respect to the court by conducting yourself appropriately and dressing appropriately. Of course, your dress could affect the outcome of your case in certain instances. For example, if you have been accused of committing adultery, you wouldn't want to show up in court dressed like you are ready for a night at a singles bar. 3. Failing to Do the Work

While it is your lawyer's job to present your case, your lawyer can't do everything. For example, your lawyer can't retrieve your credit card statements or pay stubs. In other words, there is a significant amount of work that you will need to do on your case. If your lawyer asks you to gather documents and bring them to him, do not delay. Gather the documents and get them to your lawyer immediately.

Present them in an organized fashion. Time spent by your lawyer or a paralegal organizing your documents is time that you will have to pay for.
